Play Events

Operation Play Outdoors can deliver fun and beneficial outdoor play events for people of all ages. Our goal is to inspire outdoor play long after the event as we recognise the importance of play and the benefits it provides to whoever is playing: let us bring outdoor play to your event!

We can accommodate any group size and are flexible with most choices of location. We specialise in traditional games, street play and large group games that are active, fun and support learning and development.

We work with a wide range of organisations and tailor play events to meet the needs of your participants. We can focus on outcomes you are looking to target as an organisation or simply provide a fun and unique opportunity for play at your event. Play Events

Our staff have a wealth of experience in working with groups and are able to provide original and fun activities. Our ethos revolves around empowering those we work with to continue to play and enjoy the outdoors long after they have come out to play with Operation Play Outdoors.

We use minimal resources to ensure activities are accessible and inclusive and believe in creating fun, beneficial outdoor experiences for all.

Play energizes us and enlivens us. It eases our burdens. It renews our natural sense of optimism and opens us up to new possibilities.

More play for everyone!

United Nations Convention on the Right to the Child – Article 31. 26f74dfa8ca7f47a1d4621135f4048bc

Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and recreational activities.

Play Strategy for Scotland

Children’s play is crucial to Scotland’s well being; socially, economically and environmentally…Play is an essential part of a happy, healthy childhood.

Research has shown that children who have the opportunity to play outside and are exposed to a level of risk are healthier, happier, more resilient and more confident.  The strategy encourages a risk-benefit approach to playing outside – a move away from the culture of risk aversion and the inflated sense of danger that can often lead to children being kept inside, with little freedom to grow and develop as individuals.

We have worked at lots of events and have lots of ideas to entertain large groups of people of all ages.

Examples of play at events we have done recently include:

Traditional street play. This is where we bring lots of traditional games along like skipping, marbles, hula hoops, chalk for hopscotch and creative drawing and lots more. This play is great to engage with multiple generations as adults recognise the games they played as children.

Global games. During these sessions participants travel the world through play. Play is a universal language and that is really emphasized in our global games sessions. We set up games from around the world and each participant is given a play passport to visit different countries in various areas of the event space. In each of these spaces we have a variety of games from different countries that participants get to play as well as learnt a bit about the countries.

Woodland play. This is great if you are planning an event within a woodland space. we can bring along the kit to run large den building sessions as well as woodland games and treasure hunts.

Campfire and Marshmallow Toasting. We can bring all the equipment necessary to toast marshmallows and have a real open fire pit at your event. We can also add music around the fire with exciting campfire songs for people to join along to. We can cater to all types of events and will deliver a safe and professional campfire experience to all that attend.

Event Management. As well as providing activities to an already established event, we can also plan tailored events to your budget and look at ways to bring your vision of an outdoor event to fruition. With many years experience in event management, we can create a unique and exciting outdoor event that people will remember for years to come. We provide a professional service from start to finish and would be excited to discuss an event idea you’d like to bring to life.

These are examples of some of the work we have previously done however if you have an event coming up and not sure exactly what you’d like to add to your event, get in touch, we have lots of exciting ideas and the expertise to add something extra special to your event. We pride ourselves in being able to provide play in all locations to all ages and abilities. Try us out!

Play Event FAQs

Our play events are tailored to fit the theme and event you are organising. Our typical approach offers play opportunities to all event attendees and is managed on a drop in basis. Parents and Carers are responsible for their children at all times and encouraged to take part with their children.

The cost depends on many factors. The length of the event, location, the size of event and how many staff maybe required. If you get in touch we will put together a proposal set to your requirements and work out the most cost effective Play Event for you. We can deliver to both single day and multi-day events.

The venue must be a suitable play space and risk assessed for the play activities involved. We will arrange a time to meet with you and discuss your play requirements as well as checking out the event space. Your group or organisation must have permission to use the desired play space and are accountable for paying venue fees and any other associated costs outwith the play event facilitation fees.

We find it important to offer a range of play opportunities and can adapt our sessions to fit the participants. Our flexible approach ensures that play is open to everyone and effectively allows more people to play. We typically organise group games to work with the size of group present however we can also provide some free play equipment that allows all participants to play with freely within the play space, in all cases we help facilitate the play and encourage all participants to get fully involved in the play process and how their playtime is shaped.
