Birthday Party FAQs

Where do you have your birthday parties?

We have multiple locations throughout Glasgow and the central belt of Scotland that can be used for your child’s birthday party. Upon enquiry we will ask for your address and get back to you with a selection of parks or outdoor spaces which are close to you. If you are looking to organise a party outside the city, you simply make that request upon enquiry and we can let you know what options are available for outdoor spaces we can use. If your party is indoors you just let us know the venue and we’ll plan the play experiences!

Where do we meet for your outdoor birthday parties?

This is dependant on the location of your birthday party. Once you have made your booking we will send you further details of getting to and from the park as well as meeting points. Our staff are very familiar with the parks so in the event you can’t find your way we will give you a direct mobile number for the staff running your party. It is the party organisers responsibility to ensure all participants are picked up by their parent/carer.

What time are your parties?

We have set times for our Woodland Birthday Parties in the Spring/Summer and
Autumn/Winter seasons.

Spring and Summer Times
10am – 12pm, 1 – 3pm, 4 – 6pm

Autumn and Winter Times
10am – 12pm, 1 – 3pm

Our indoor parties and mobile play parties either run from 10am-12pm or 2pm-4pm
These times may be flexible in the event we have less bookings on one day, however that is subject to availability.

Can we stay in the park & play afterwards?

Absolutely, we encourage this, the more time spent playing outdoors the better. You can either book further time within your party to try another activity or have free play time with our equipment or you can go explore other areas of the park with the supervising adults being responsible for the group.

What do we do if there is severe weather?

Severe weather is classified as high winds, severe cold or thunder and lightning. If the forecast is for heavy rain the party will still go ahead. We encourage children to play outdoors whatever the weather and we will bring tarpaulins and active games to keep everyone warm and dry. If a party does have to be cancelled due to severe weather we will aim to reschedule at the earliest convenience. Please contact us with any questions.

Are there toilets available on site?

This is dependant on the site we book for your party. Generally there is no access to toilets in most woodlands or there is a substantial walk, there are exceptions and we can certainly explain this further when you make an enquiry. We encourage participants to go to the toilet before the party starts to reduce the risk of needing the toilet during the session. If this is a particular worry we can speak to you about this and find a site that may have better access to toilets.

What should adults/parents do during the party?

Adults and parents are welcome to stay on-site during the party and also welcome to get involved with activities, this is at the discretion of the main parent who organised the party. Our focus of course is on the children and it is crucial that children get to participate freely without adults taking over. That being said if you’re eager to build your own den we can set the adults a challenge to make their own and that way not interfering with the children’s engineering. If parents choose to drop off their child and come back after 2 hours, we can certainly recommend places nearby for them to get a coffee or do some shopping. We don’t provide seats but will have plastic mats you can use to sit on if you’d like one.

What should participants wear?

Our outdoor play and woodland parties are held outdoors all year round and therefore we can’t guarantee that guests will stay clean! We recommend wearing old or inexpensive clothes, wellies or old trainers and waterproofs.

What are the minimum and maximum numbers for a party?

We don’t have a minimum for our parties however the minimum cost for a party is £150. Our prices and extras vary depending on which type of party you’d be interested in booking. Our woodland birthday parties are usually capped at 20 children but we’d be happy to speak with you further to make sure no one misses out.

How do I pay and is there a deposit?

We accept bank transfers and cheques as long as they clear before the date of the
party. We require a £50 deposit to secure the date of the birthday and then ask for
the remaining balance to be paid at least 2 weeks before the date of the party.

Can I bring my own cake/goodybags?

Yes, of course. We also have two styles of cake available for our woodland and box
play parties at an additional cost but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish.
You can prepare your own goody bags and bring along that’s no problem. We do offer our own goody bags and boxes for children as an optional extra, these cost £3 per child.

Forest School FAQs

Can I give Forest School a try first?

Yes, of course. We offer taster sessions ranging in length from 2 hours, half day or full day sessions. This gives you the chance to try some Forest School activities and see what works for you.

How much does Forest School cost?

The cost depends on many factors. The length of programme, location, and how many are attending. If you get in touch we will put together a proposal set to your requirements and work out the most cost effective Forest School programme for your organisation or group. We have experience in finding funding for groups and helping with funding applications. Our taster sessions are also charged with the above factors in mind.

Where can I do Forest School?

We have permission to use various parks throughout Glasgow and further afield. When you make an enquiry we will ask for your address and from that give you a list of potential options for forest school sites. By delivering forest school this way it allows us to bring the programme closer to you and thus encouraging long term forest school benefits. If however you would like to escape the city for a session or more we have various options outside the city to choose from.

Does our organisation need to provide a staff member or adult helper?

Not necessarily, when you book a Forest School programme we will discuss this further and may require you to include a staff member or helper to attend on the group/organisations behalf. We are responsible for running the forest school programme as well as the safety of the session but a supervising adult from your team might be needed during the sessions to ensure the group management and being responsible for getting children to and from Forest School. We can chat to you further about staff members or supervising adults helping out where neede

It is important for participants to see staff and adult helpers taking part and modelling good practice within the play environment.

Is there any free play during these sessions?

Yes, we firmly believe in the power of free play and want the participants to explore their play space and play potential. We like to give ideas and come provided with lots of options and then see how the play progresses. The participant is the focus for all the session and it is important to us that they feel empowered to develop their play and expand on the ideas that they have.

Bushcraft FAQs

How much does Bushcraft cost?

The cost depends on many factors. The length of programme, location, and how many are attending. If you get in touch we will put together a proposal set to your requirements and work out the most cost effective Bushcraft session for your organisation or group.

Where can I do Bushcraft?

We have permission to use various parks throughout Glasgow and further afield. When you make an enquiry we will ask for your address and from that give you a list of potential options for Bushcraft sites.  If you would like to escape the city for a session or more we have various options outside the city to choose from.

Does our organisation need to provide a staff member or adult helper?

In the event we are working with a group of children or young people we require that you provide a member of staff or adult helper. We are responsible for running the bushcraft elements as well as the safety of the session but a supervising adult must be present during all sessions to ensure the group management and being responsible for getting the group to and from the session. We expect the staff member or supervising adult to help out where possible and within reason.

Box Play FAQs

How many sessions do I need to do?

Our box play sessions are tailored to meet the needs of your group and organisation. You can choose to do just one session or we can programme multiple box play sessions that provide long term play benefits. The first session you book we will provide an OpOut member of staff to ensure the smooth running of the Box Play programme and to give you some ideas of what you can do. Subsequent sessions you can hire just the boxes however you must agree to our terms and conditions before hire.

Can we hire just the boxes?

Yes, however the first Box Play session you book must include an OpOut member of staff. This is for several reasons, it allows us to share our box play ideas, ensure the staff are informed about the safe running of our programme and also to ensure the boxes are used appropriately. After the first box play session you will be offered the opportunity to hire the boxes without an OpOut member of staff being present, this is subject to conditions being met and satisfactory use of boxes during the first session.

Where can I do box play sessions?

We will bring the play sessions to your venue or location of choice. The session must be run indoors due to the perishable nature of the cardboard boxes. The venue must be a suitable play space and risk assessed for the play activities involved. We will arrange a time to meet with you and discuss your play requirements as well as checking out the play space. Your group or organisation must have permission to use the desired play space and are accountable for paying venue fees and any other associated costs outwith the play session facilitation fees.

Does our organisation or group need to provide an adult helper or staff member?

Yes, it is important that when you book Box Play sessions with us that you include a staff member or helper to attend on the group/organisations behalf. We are responsible for running the box play sessions as well as the safety of the session but a supervising adult must be present during all sessions to ensure the group management and being responsible for getting children to and from the session. We expect the staff member or supervising adult to help out where possible and within reason. What happens if the boxes get damaged? Contact Us

We understand that cardboard is likely to get damaged over time and is not designed to be particularly long lasting. That being said with appropriate use our boxes do stand the test of time and can provide lots of play opportunities where the boxes don’t get damaged. At the start of every session we highlight the rules when using our boxes for play and encourage the group to take care of the boxes they use. This is an invaluable skill learning to be respectful of equipment and understanding the power in playing with such a simple resource. In the event where boxes get damaged lightly or deteriorate over time there is no charge, however if boxes have been damaged due to improper use or reckless behaviour charges will apply. We take a damage deposit of £20 at the time of booking to recover any costs associated with buying new boxes. In the event no new boxes are needed your full deposit will be returned.
